BREYER PONIES

Most of these molds were originally released as the "Dapples" series and sculpted by Kathleen Moody. They have been "renamed" as the Breyer Ponies. They are approximately "Classic" in scale, but a more "Barbie horse-esque" appearance (e.g., not as realistic as those of the tradional/classic -- in the non-scale sense -- Breyer molds).

Kathleen Moody provides some history on Dapples: There is ALOT about Dapples that is no longer used. They changed the name when the Dapples line didn't compete well with other commercial toys that were cheaper. We even went so far as to produce a TV commercial to sell just the Dapples horses-! A year or two later after dismull sales, the whole program got scrapped and renamed "Breyer Ponies" so the molds could be used for other things.

The original Dapples horses were the "head up stallion"- whose name was "Amazement" and originally black and white pinto. He had a used car salesman smile that the owner of Breyer loved (the owner died- but the smiling stallion remained- even though they try to paint out his smile now adays-!). The "head down mare" is "MOM" and was originally the chestnut with flaxen mane and tail. Her foal was "Sunny" - the "head up foal" a pinto like her dad, "Amazement" only in chestnut . "Dancer" is the "Prancing mare" in pearlized white with her filly "Celestria" (head down foal) in matching color. All the other colors came after the Dapples line was canceled. The "Popcorn Pony" (Standing stallion) is a mold that was added a few years later. We needed another stallion to balance out the two mares and two foals. He never really had an original name as he was never part of the original story. Oh, and the story was reduced from a 32 page book down to a 12 page booklet included with the horses- much to my chargrin! The story never came out again.
