Created 2007 as a donation for the The International Blessed Broodmare Project, to save a number of PMU mares, their foals, and some stallions, from slaughter. Portrait of OK Little Richman Appaloosa stallion, one of the sires of many of the PMU foals.

Barn
Created 2007. Gina describes this piece: The local art group I belong to set as the December theme, "barns". Well, I am not good at landscape, they don't seem to be my focus but I figured I had to do something to take to the meeting to show so I decided to paint this one and of course had to add a horse! I struggled mightily with the foreground and had to resort to using a bit of gouache to add the weedy flowers but overall I think it turned out OK. Not my best work but I guess it will do.

Gypsy Vanner herd
Created 2007. Gina describes this piece: Just finished up on this painting of Gypsy vanner horses which are a light draft breed bred by the Gypsys to pull their vans on their travels. They are being bred now in almost every country including the US! Breeders try to get a flashy looking horse with a very kind disposition.

Arabian headstudy

Gina describes this piece: My students decided they wanted to do an Arabian horse for class this week so I painted this one ahead so I would know all the pitfalls before I did the demo at class. This one was much more complicated than I anticipated and it will be a difficult one for my class. I am happy with how it turned out and it will go to the gallery as well.

Created 2008. Gina describes this piece: I painted this one over the Holidays of a friends horse. I had some problems with this one as I the paper I was using was not accepting the paint well. I have had trouble with this paper in the past so I am just going to use it up and go to Arches instead.

Created 2009. Gina describes this piece: I received a commission for two paintings that are awards for a show. This is the first completed one. I am now working on the second one. These are 16 X 20 which for me is large for a horse portrait. The bridle on this one really had me going because the photo wasn't clear on which strap went where. Had to do some research on it to hopefully get it correct.

Created 2008. Gina describes this piece: I actually did this one before the Arabian but forgot to put him up. This is a red tailed hawk, done for the monthly project for my animal art group. I was trying to get detail in him without painting each and every feather. I think I accomplished that.

I think I have the face almost finished but need to finish the neck and body plus the hat and hair. I am using a photo that I got from Wetcanvas. When I have it finished I will post the photo too and see how well I did at the likeness. This is my first ever portrait.

This is my first for the class although I have done some WC pencil in the past but not a lot. I need to purchase some pencils that have more earth tones to make my animals look better.

Created 2008. Gina describes this piece: My demo for my WC class this week was one I thought would be fun for my students. We wet the upper part of the paper and dropped in the background color. Let that dry and then wet the entire rest of the painting and again dropped in color. After that dried, we did some positive and negative painting and glazing to define the pads. We were testing Lanaquarelle paper and found that the color of the paint stays very intense, unlike most papers I have used. As a result the painting is quite saturated. The paper is very nice to work with and I love the intense color.

Created 2008. Gina describes this piece: This was a demonstration for my WC beginner class. I really like how the background turned out, it is burnt sienna with water spritzed on when it was not quite dry.

Created 2008. Gina describes piece: This is the project I chose for our watercolor challenge for the month of January. The calm sky and rolling hills really appealed to me and the wild grasses in front seemed to set off that quiet calmness. This is my painted version.

Created 2008. Gina describes this piece: I haven't painted flowers for quite a while and I wanted something to hang at the gallery that wasn't horses so I decided to do this iris painting. I had painted it once before for a donation to an auction and liked it so much I wanted to do it again. I think it turned out well and will be going to the gallery soon.
