Are you hunting for a particularly nice Pony breed, in which any color is acceptable to the registry, which will correctly apply for showing to those gazillion model ponies? Here’s a delightful and interesting Pony Breed which can find many applications in the world of Model Horses!
What started out as a crossbred pony suitable for sport purposes, developed into a regular breed with the closing of its stud books in 1991. Created as a sport pony for children and small adults, the “Poney Francais de Selle” stands between 12.1 and 14.2, and is bred to look like a small horse, with sporting abilities. Their many sporting uses include Show Jumping, Eventing, Driving, Hacking Out, and Pony Racing. They are specifically noted for their good temperament, suitable for children.
The French Saddle Pony arose from crossing native French pony mares with Welsh, New Forest, Arabian, and Connemara Pony Stallions; from crossing Arabian stallions with Connemara, New Forest, and Welsh pony mares, and from crossing Selle Francais, New Forest, and Connemara stallions with Merens, Basque, and Landais mares.
