Ali Afas
Dappled blood bay sabino Arabian stallion, customized from the Brigette Ebrel Papagenoresin; created 2010. Tom describes this piece: I added sculptural detail to him, like lip wrinkles, neck rippling, skin rippling/folding in his brisket and between the front legs, tendon detailing, pastern/fetlock reshaping, and too much more to mention ... when you sit him next to a Papageno without these added elements you can really tell a difference. Because of all the extra time I spent on his prepping and detailing I wanted a extra special color on him. All the other Papageno's I painted have been grey, it is the simpliest color to paint and it tends to hide imperfections in prepping easily. Since I thought this one was near perfect I figured he needed a color that did not need to hide any flaws. The results I can honestly say make him my favorite Papageno I've painted, by far ... hands down. The problem with this color, is it just isn't nearly as photogenic as the greys ... it is impossible to see all his coloring, tonal changes and detailing in these poor photos. His color is a deep and delicious dappled blood bay sabino --- a color I haven't done in a long time and I was just giddy with excitement with how he turned out. There is so much detail in him, it must be seen to be appreciated. Layers of realistic dappling that you just won't believe and cannot see in these photos. His chrome is uber detailed as well, a few belly spots, ermine spots on his legs and face, hoof detail and so much more. He will stick out in the sea of greys on the show table, believe me.
