Armstrong's
Sassy Savior Faire
Grulla tovero Arapinto filly customized from the
Breyer Classic Arabian Foal and owned by Sarah Minkiewicz
This is my favorite Armstrong baby! Her creation came about while
I was "scrapping" through my Arab magazines for foal
positions, expressions, and colors to put into one of my many
reference binders. I found a photo of a foal doing this exact
strut and just about died laughing! Then I found another photo
of a baby with with her exact snooty expression...and I just had
to make her! I had recently finished Armstrong's Affairah and
loved the color so much I decided to use it for Sassy, which made
it easy for me to assign Affairah as her dam. I presented Sassy
to Sarah one day at a show because I wanted to see if I could
get her to explode from seeing such a cute little baby...and she
nearly did! Sarah has shown Sassy to a Championship at Northwest
Congress as well as a National Top Ten at this year's North American
Nationals! I'm very proud of this foal, but I'm hoping that my
next foals are even better!
Sassy and Affairah
Grulla tovero Arapinto filly and tovero Anglo-Arab/
Arapinto mare customized from the Breyer Classic Arabian Foal
and Breyer Classic Kelso; Sassy's owned by Sarah Minkiewicz, Affairah
is owned by me
Here's another view of these two together, aren't they a pretty
pair?!
Armstrong's Snake Dance
Apricot dun overo Mustang mare customized from the
Breyer Classic Mustang mare by Chris Lapp; white markings added
by Janet Piercy
I bought this mare back in 1988 as a solid dun, but I thought
she'd look fabulous if I added spots. I think Snake Dance has
one of the nicest patterns I've done so far and her super show
record reflects this too!
Armstrong's Winter Winds
Black Arapinto mare customized from the Breyer Traditional
Black Stallion
This was one of my earliest horses but she had a very successful
show career while I owned her; she was created in about 1984 with
a new mane and tail in 1988.
Armstrong's Vangellis
Se Shiek
Bay tobiano Arapinto stallion customized from the
Breyer Traditional Proud Arabian Stallion and owned by Ivy Olensky
Vangellis was my first really successful show horse, bringing
in scores of Grands and Championships; he was created about 1988.
Armstrong's Hyfad
Dapple buckskin tobiano Arapinto stallion customized
from the Breyer Traditional Proud Arabian Stallion and owned by
Denise Apra
My friend Denise commissioned this piece from me as a portrait
horse for an Arapinto she photographed at a show she went to.
As the successor to Vangellis, Hyfad fairly raked in the Grands
and Championships! Hyfad was done in about 1989 and is one of
the two buckskins I've done so far. (In other words, I need to
get back to customizing!!)
Armstrong's Abu Se Sheik
Bay tobiano Arapinto/Tennessee Walking Horse gelding
customized from the Breyer Traditional Midnight Sun and owned
by Ivy Olensky
Who ever thought of crossing a big-lick TWH to an Arapinto (Vangellis)
and then showing the offspring as a big-lick Walker cross? At
the time I created Abu, I knew of zero customized spotted Midnight
Suns, so it was really fun to be different. Also, unlike now,
it wasn't common knowledge that pure TWH's actually occur with
spots so Abu always got lots of attention! Created about 1989,
Abu was an excellent show horse and was shown to many Championships
in both the U.S. and Canada!
Armstrong's Sierra Gold
Palomino Azteca colt customized from the Breyer Classic
Andalusian Foal
I created Sierra and Crimson together as twin babies and were
originally owned as a pair but were later separated I believe.
Armstrong's Crimson Cutie
Buckskin Azteca colt customized from the Breyer Classic
Andalusian Foal
Crimson is my favorite of the two babies; it was always fun to
compare their show results to see how the judges placed them;
their averaged results placed them about the same.
Armstrong's
D'Elegance
Chestnut overo Arapinto filly customized from the
Breyer Classic Arabian Foal and owned by Jennifer Elsner
Until I created Sassy Savoir Faire, D'Elegance was my most successful
baby, winning countless Championships and many Grands. I did her
as a commision for Jennifer, using a pattern she picked out for
her spots. I enjoyed all the attention she got from admirers!
