Armstrong's
First Impression
Chestnut overo Paint colt customized from the Breyer
Stock Horse Foal by Janet Piercy
I really like the Action Stock Horse Foal's position, but it has
so many flaws that deciding to customize this model presented
a big challenge to me!
Although
at first glance he may seem nearly unchanged from the original
mold, Impression has actually had all the following alterations:
lengthened back, lengthened and resculpted neck, correctly-sloped
pasterns, added muscles on forearms, all four limbs repositioned
to some degree and finally, a resculpted muzzle and added veining!
I only wish I could take some decent photos to show his shading!
Armstrong's Gamblin' Man
Black splash white Paint stallion customized from
the Breyer Stablemate Seabiscuit by Janet Piercy and owned by
Ruhamah Hunter; portrait horse of the Paint stallion, Gamblin'
Man.
This little guy is probably my
favorite customized Stablemate horse because of his unusual pattern--I
love splash whites! I've shown both sides of him...so you can
see the typical wierd pattern of splash white. Hard to believe
it's the same horse, eh?!!
Armstrong's Major Dundee
Apricot dun tovero Paint stallion customized from
the Breyer Classic Silky Sullivan
Breyer's Classic Thoroughbred set contain some of my very favorite
Breyers, and I've always liked Silky's position and expression.
The only customizing I did to the mold was added veining and a
resculpted muzzle. This guy also sports a banded mane, which is
very popular in today's stock horse classes. Although technically
an overo, Dundee's pattern shows the smooth edges and placement
characteristic of a tobiano.
Armstrong's
Goin' First Class
Chestnut overo Paint stallion customized from the
Breyer Stablemate Quarter Horse Stallion and owned by Jennifer
Elsner
Another oldie, this horse was created around 1989. Although the
photos were never able to capture his color, he had a nice range
of chestnut shades through his coat, contrasting with his chestnut
and flaxen mixed mane and tail.
Armstrong's Classy Ambrosia
Bay overo Paint filly customized from the Breyer
Stablemate Lying Foal and owned by Sarah Minkiewicz
She's the bittiest of the bunch but done with all the detail of
the largest of them! I thought it would be great fun to see how
nicely I could paint and hair Breyer's tiniest model, and this
cutie is my attempt. I have a great attachment to this little
baby and it's neat to see people admire her when Sarah brings
her to show!
Armstrong's Goin' Dun
Dun overo Paint gelding customized from the Breyer
Little Bit Quarter Horse by Chris Cook, white markings added by
Janet Piercy; owned by Cheryl Mundee
When I bought this horse he was solid dun, but I looking him over,
I imagined how nice he would look as a Paint, so it wasn't long
before I penciled in a pattern and added chrome to him!
Armstrong's Guilty Secret
Dapple grey Paint mare customized from the Breyer
Traditional Thoroughbred Mare
This was my first attempt at dapple grey on a Traditional-sized
horse, and a rare beast, since I've only done one other dapple
grey of that size! In my opinion, she has one of the nicest overo
patterns that I've done so far. Although this mold isn't the best
in terms of conformation, I think she's very kind-looking and
I like her!
Armstrong's Class Act
Apricot dun overo Paint gelding customized from the
Breyer Stablemate Seabiscuit and owned by Kelley Gjere
The lacy pattern on this model was painstaking but fun. I was
never able to take a good picture of his shading though--he has
a very pretty color!
