Perhaps the biggest impact in the layout of a website is how things are presented.
If you have a lot of information to present, you may want to break it out into subsections (even alphabetical).
The Model Horse Gallery mainly operates on alphabetic navigation to subsections and then to a specific gallery, and then down to an individual page. The main artist and artisan galleries/sections are grouped alphabetically, split by manufacturer (company/business) and artist. Other sections include the library or reference section, as well as the press release section.
If you’re selling things, think about individual pages for each sale item, as utilized at my bead creations site; it may be divided by color (with lots of images). Of course, showing a history of older/retired editions or custom work may also be desired. Each individual item for sale has a description, image(s), and the all import “buy me” section.
Another option for selling is to group by date or similar. This site has multiple items listed on each page, with each item available for sale.
