Letting your Live Show help others

An increasing number (and percentage) of live shows are supporting one or more charities with proceeds from their event. And some smaller shows are held to raise funds for future larger shows.

By benefiting a charity, folks know that they can not only enjoy their time at the show, but know the time and money they spend can benefit others.

Some shows may choose a local entity to support, like an animal rescue organization or therapeutic riding academy. Others may select a national organization, like the Red Cross or breast cancer research.

As with any donation, it's good to know what type of donations the charity can accept (i.e., tax deductible or not) as well as how well they utilize the funds donated. Looking at a review of a charity, such as information available from the American Institute of Philanthropy's Charity Watch site, provides more information to make a better decision regarding donations.

For tax purposes, the show holder/organization is usually considered the donor of any monies to non-profit organizations, not the showers. Contact your tax advisor for further details.

Some participants may be more inclined to bid higher on auction items or provide more significant donations because proceeds will be supporting a charity.

Including information on the charity in promotional materials not only may increase support by the show participants, but raise awareness of the charity and its mission. Charities may have brochures or other materials they would be happy to provide that can be included in a show program. And don't forget to let folks know how much was donated to the selected charity.
